Recently built using old construction techniques to allow our guests to savour times past. It is not made exclusively of tambours and the wild nature of our collective imagination, but also from times when the exchange of goods from Africa’s interior, like gold, ivory and spices, fostered the coast’s expansion, producing a lingua franca, a distinctive culture and a characteristic architectonic style: Swahili.
Lonno Lodge is a mixture of styles and different shapes, almost as if the different populations also came in waves during the building process, rebuilding it, reorganising it and changing it around; leaving their various imprints behind.
This design method also required the recovery of materials and techniques which, without the assistance of energy and chemistry, have made the buildings hospitable.
Where would you rather spend your holiday: In the uncertainty and turmoil of modern shapes or soothed by the past?
We are in Watamu, on the coast of Kenya, directly facing the Indian Ocean. In fact we are inside the Watamu Marine National Park and we are surrounded by the Mida Creek Protected Area on one side and the Arabuko Sokoke Forest on the other.
Our Lodge is pretty small, compared to the industrial resorts, only four tower rooms and four historical suites: maximum relax, no noise and privacy for all the guests. We have no discoteque, sorry for that :-), but you can have a look at our Rooms at a glance page.
We have a restaurant, reserved to our guests only, where we prepare the dishes of the local cuisine with a strong european influence. Our menu changes every day, also according to the available natural local produce and to guests desires or preferences: international, swahili, vegetarian, gluten-free, italian menus are available upon simple request.
The swimmingpool, filled with salt water, is the centre of the daily activites, or the centre of the relaxing activites, simply laying around is a pretty common sight at Lonno. We offer free use of sunbeds and towels, as well as water shoes for a romantic walk at low tide and mountain bikes for more adventurous rides in Watamu.
Do you prefer to enjoy a cocktail at the Pool Bar? Or maybe indulge on a de-stressing Swedish Massage? No need to move from Lonno, we have them all. Oh, by the way, every day at 5 p.m. we offer a complimentary Tea time.
